La piccola e modesta chiesetta, nota agli avellinesi come Chiesa di San Leonardo, era un tempo un importante convento benedettino all’interno del quale era venerata la”Madonna della Potenza”, nota anche come Madonna che allatta.
Il culto per questa sacra icona fu praticata dagli Avellinesi anche dopo l’abbattimento del convento benedettino avvenuta agli inizi del XVIII secolo, per subire un lento declino a seguito del nuovo culto della Madonna della Salette, principiato nella zona agli inizi del XIX secolo.
Attualmente l’edificio in avanzato stato di abbandono attende che i proprietari (la chiesa fa parte dei beni dell’Abbazia di Cava de’ Tirreni) decidano del suo destino.

ST. LEONARDO’S CHURCH
The small and modest little church known to Avellinesi as St. Leonard’s Church was once an important Benedictine monastery in which the "Madonna of the Power" was honored, also known as the nursering Our Lady.
The cult for this sacred icon was practiced by Avellinesi even after the overthrow of the Benedictine monastery occurred in the early eighteenth century to suffer a slow decline as a result of the new cult of Salette Our Lady begun in the area in the early of nineteenth century.
Currently the building, in an advanced state of disrepair ,expects the owners (the church is part of the assets of the Abbey of Cava de 'Tirreni) decide his fate.
