Costruito nella seconda metà del secolo XVIII per volere della famiglia de Conciliis, appartenente alla ricca borghesia cittadina, ospitò dal Gennaio al Luglio del 1808 il grande scrittore francese Victor Hugo, giunto ad Avellino all’età di otto anni per seguire il padre Lèopold Sigisbert, designato dal re di Napoli Giuseppe Bonaparte governatore della città. L’edificio fu donato alla N.D. Michelina De Conciliis all’Amministrazione Comunale con l’obbligo di destinarlo a “Centro preposto all’assistenza della maternità e dell’infanzia”. Restaurato dopo il sisma dell’80 è oggi sede del Centro di Ricerca “Guido Dorso” e dell’Archivio Storico Comunale.

It was built in the second half of XVIII century because of the will of the De Conciliis family, belonging to the rich city middle class, it gave hospitality since January to July of 1808 the great french writer Victor Hugo, come to Avellino at the age of eight years to follow his father Lèopold Sigisbert, designated by the king of Naples Joseph Bonaparte governor of the city. The building was given to the N.W. Michelina De Conciliis to the Town Administration with the duty to destine it to the "Center for the assistance of the maternity and the infancy." It was restored after the earthquake in 1980 and, today it is the center of the Center of Search "Guido Dorso" and of the Town Historical Archives.
