L’edificio, in stile neoclassico, i cui lavori di costruzione iniziarono nel 1819 fu progettato dall’Ing. Luigi Oberty (Mouton – Nizza 1786 – Firenze 1869) Direttore Provinciale del “Corpo Ponti e Strade”. Inaugurato il 1°Dicembre del 1831 quale “real Collegio per l’istruzione dei rampolli della buona borghesia cittadina”, veniva nel 1865 nella sua nuova veste di “regio Liceo – Ginnasio” intitolato allo storico e patriota napoletano Pietro Colletta.
Attualmente è sede del “Convitto Nazionale con annesse Scuole Elementari e Medie Inferiori, e inoltre, dall’anno scolastico 1995/96 del nuovo Corso di studi “Liceo Classico Europeo”.

NATIONAL BOARDING SCHOOL "PIETRO COLLETTA” The building, in neoclassic style, whose jobs of construction began in 1819 it was projected by the engineer Luigi Oberty (Mouton - Nice 1786- Florence 1869) Provincial manager of the "Corps Bridges and Roads." It was inaugurated on the 1st December 1831 like the "real College for the education of the descendants of the good city middle class", it was in 1865, its new dress of "regal High school Grammar school", entitled to the neapolitan and patriot Pietro Colletta. Today it is the center of the "National Boarding school with attached Elementary Schools and Inferior Averages, and besides, from the scholastic year 1995/96 of the new Course of studies of "European and Classic High school."
